Whether you’re already doing SEO yourself, hiring an agency to do it for you, or you haven’t done SEO at all, you may be contemplating an offer from an agency offering a cheap SEO package. SEO is a vital part of your digital marketing strategy, so you may be tempted to take an inexpensive offer — the work you need for a fraction of what it normally costs.

Sounds ideal, doesn’t it? But cheap SEO packages are often a scam, and not worth considering at all. Here are a few reasons why SEO is worth investing in, and why a cheap package should raise alarms.

1- Your content won’t be good.

Gone are the days when keyword-stuffed content was an effective way to get ranked on Google. Google’s new algorithm now recognizes quality content and penalizes low-quality content as well. If you want great content for your site, you’ll have to pay up for the expertise and man hours of a robust SEO package.

A cheap SEO package may offer content or not; if it does, the content will definitely not be up to the standards Google has set for quality content. Content is key to building relevance on search engines, and these cheap packages can’t provide it for you.

2- The agency can drop you at any time.

Agencies offering such cheap packages can do this because they rely on selling the same cheap package to many customers, instead of offering quality services to a smaller set of customers. When you (inevitably) have an issue with the results of your SEO efforts, the agency will just stop working with you instead of putting work into the relationship. By the time they dump your business, they’ve already replaced you.

Working with an agency that charges more and offers more personalized, attentive service ensures not only a better service, but a more reliable working relationship, in which both of you are invested.

3- They don’t have time to do proper backlinking and link building.

Links are another key element of a successful SEO strategy. However, link building and backlinking takes time and effort that a cheap SEO package will not be able to offer. Inevitably, this agency will opt instead for quick, easy, and questionable linking strategies that will definitely get you flagged by Google.

4- You’ll get a cookie-cutter strategy.

Each business, industry, and site is different, and requires a different SEO strategy to succeed. A cheap package is “affordable” because the agency takes one easy strategy and uses it for every client, instead of using their time and resources to develop a more in-depth and personalized strategy. It’s unlikely this agency even has dedicated SEO specialists working with you closely on a strategy.

These cookie-cutter strategies will provide limited results, and aren’t worth even a small amount of your money. It’s much more worthwhile to invest a bit more in a strategy designed specifically for you, with a specialist who is working consistently on your account.

5- Your website will suffer.

Good SEO not only ranks your website through content and link building, it also improves your site’s ability to engage visitors, reducing bounce rate and loading times and improving navigation and customer experience. Cheap SEO packages do none of this — even worse, their questionable tactics can get your website flagged by Google. Instead of improving, your site will become stagnant, or worse, disappear from search engines in favor of better sites.

Invest in SEO: Because You’re Worth It

Cheap SEO packages won’t get you the results you’re looking for. Though their unbelievable prices may seem like a great deal, it’s better to invest your money in an effective long-term strategy with an agency that actually cares about you.
