3 Steps To Market Yourself on Facebook
With over a billion active daily users, Facebook is one of the best places to market your business online. On Facebook, you’re able to find a perfect audience among the many users, whether it’s people who already know about you or new customers who would be interested in your product or service.
But it’s not as simple as creating a business page and posting images of your products every day. Your approach should be more strategic to really gain a large following, find new customers, and actually sell through Facebook. Here are 3 steps to create a truly successful Facebook marketing campaign.
Set The Foundation: Branding
Before you even hop on the social media channel, you have to make sure your brand is ready. A successful campaign relies in part on a strong brand and none more so than on Facebook, where your logo, colors, and images are prominently displayed in your ads and your Facebook page.
A brand is more than a logo. It involves:
- A color palette
Why is it so important that your brand be clearly defined before starting to advertise? Statistics show that brand consistency has a huge effect on revenue: when a brand presents itself consistently, it increases revenue by 33%.
Furthermore, a consistent brand is more memorable and trustworthy. If someone on Facebook sees your business across several ads, they’re more likely to remember your brand if it uses the same colors, logos, creatives, and tone of voice in all of them — and more likely to see you as reputable.
A marketing and/or branding agency can help you create a brand with all these components and provide a brand style guide. Your Facebook advertising should use the elements and follow the rules of the brand style guide.
Set Up a Facebook Page
Once your brand is ready, you can create a Facebook business page. Facebook pages are useful because they often come up in search engines or in Facebook searches, and users expect businesses to have Facebook pages with accurate information.
Create clean and attractive images for your cover photo and profile picture. Make sure to fill out all the information, especially your website, phone number, address, and hours of operation if applicable. If you drive users to your page, they should be able to find this info easily.
You can use your Facebook page to share organic posts about your business, products, and offers, but only your followers will see them. Facebook will give you the option to “boost” your post, but we don’t recommend this.
Why? Boosted posts are actually very limited, both in the targeting options and when and where the posts show up. You also can’t optimize your posts to get better results. Your post might get more likes and shares, but that’s often as far as it goes.
Most importantly, you need to have a Facebook business page to start running Facebook Ads.
Run Facebook Ads
Facebook Ads, unlike boosted posts, are created through Facebook Ads Manager. With Facebook Ads, you have a wide variety of options, including:
Who you target. On Facebook Ads, you can target based on job, behavior, age, gender, location, interests, and more. You can also create Lookalike audiences to find new customers that don’t follow you yet or target people who follow you outside of Facebook.
What your ad looks like. Facebook Ads, unlike Google Ads, for example, allows you to add images, carousels, and even video to your ads, making them very dynamic and engaging. You can also add CTA buttons and ad copy.
Where it shows up. You can place a Facebook Ad in Messenger Ads, Audience Network, Facebook News Feed, Instagram Stories, and more, depending on your strategy.
When it appears. You can set your ad to run during a specific time when your target audience is more likely to be on Facebook. This way, you use your budget wisely.
What it accomplishes. You can also choose your goal: do you want to lead users to purchase or set an appointment, or are you just looking for video views, or app downloads?
Although you may choose to link your Facebook Ad to your Facebook business page to increase your followers and brand awareness, the best strategy for your ROI is to link it to your website, so you can get more sales right away.
